Owners of Marathon waterfront homes or those residents who own boats nearby should take notice of two important recent real estate transactions. Within the past three months, two popular marinas in Marathon have been sold to Texas-based marina investment companies. Marathon Marina and RV Resort was sold to Safe Harbor Marinas, and Faro Blanco Marina was sold to Suntex Marinas. If you are looking for a waterfront home for sale near Marathon Fl and are considering one of these two marinas, or if you currently house your boat there it is important to take note of any potential changes this might cause.
Faro Blanco Marina is an iconic destination located on the bay side of Marathon. The marina consists of 74 wet slips that can house boats that range from 35 to 145 feet, as well as additional docking options for up to 150 foot vessels. Suntex is looking to add 10-12 new slips outside of the Faro Blanco basin as well. The primary selling point of the marina, according to Suntex’s Head of Florida Investing David Filler, was the 10-12 foot water depth in the main basin. The depth is greater than most marinas in the Florida Keys, which allows for larger vessels to use the marina. When Suntex was looking to add to their portfolio, this was the driving factor is purchasing their piece of Florida Keys real estate. The marina is located within the Faro Blanco Resort and Yacht Club in Maraton, a popular destination for residents and tourists alike. The resort is currently undergoing major renovations and upgrades, including an expanded pool area that includes a waterslide and tikis. The resort already features Jeep rentals, an iconic lighthouse and restaurant, and outdoor activities. All Faro Blanco Marina members are able to enjoy the amenities of the resort as part of their membership.
On the other side of the island, Marathon Marina was also sold recently. The new owners are Dallas-based company Safe Harbor Marinas. Marathon Marina is a highly prestigious marina that residents of Marathon waterfront homes have been enjoying for years. In fact, it has won multiple awards including 2018 Best Large Marina by Marine Life Magazine, 2019 Marinas.com Boater’s Choice Award, and 2020 Small Marina of the Year by The Waterways Journal. Marathon Marina features 123 slips including both fixed and floating docks, a refueling station, and spots reserved for transient vessels. The property that was sold also includes the adjacent resort. On the property you can find an RV park that can accommodate 9 RVs, 4 vacation rental units, and a restaurant and tiki bar. Renters at the resort and guests of the marina have access to an oceanfront pool, fitness center, lounge, sundeck, and fish cleaning facilities.
Both companies point to the increased boat sales in the past two years and the high demand for boat dockage as primary driving factors for increasing their Florida investments. If you currently dock your boats at either of these two marinas, it is important to reach out to learn of any potential changes that might affect you.
