Original Marathon Seafood Festival Coming to the Florida Keys Next Week
People come to live in the Florida Keys for a variety of reasons - the beauty, the weather, the fishing, and the seafood all come to mind as top draws to Florida Keys homes. All of these will be on full display next week at the Original Marathon Seafood Festival. Taking place on March 12-13, 2022, residents of Marathon and visitors alike are sure to enjoy a fantastic weekend full of good food and family-friendly fun!
This is the 46th annual holding of this highly anticipated event. The first Marathon Seafood Festival was held back in 1976. It was a small gathering of local commercial fishermen from around the Middle Keys. They met in a Marathon Publix parking lot to cook, serve, and celebrate the seafood that they caught as a part of their trade. Since then, the Original Marathon Seafood Festival has grown to become the second largest event in all of the Florida Keys. Every year, an estimated 20,000 people attend the festival looking for delicious fresh seafood and more.
What can attendees expect from the festival? Most importantly, copious amounts of fresh, local seafood! Fresh caught fish, lobster tail, stone crab and shrimp, right from the sea to your plate! But the event is more than just seafood, there is something for everyone to enjoy. There will be more than 200 vendors selling crafts, jewelry, clothing, fishing gear, and more. A boat show will be on premises, with spectacular vessels on display and for sale. A kids’ zone will provide entertainment for the little ones with activities like a rock climbing wall, face painting, and an obstacle course. And all of this will be serenaded by a full lineup of live entertainment.
